Coprophagia

Eating their own poo: When your pup does a poo, give them lots of praise and use a treat to lure them away from the poo. When they are away from it (back in the house or moved on in a walk), you can sneakily pick up that poo. We don’t want it to be a competition to see who can get to the poo first as they will then want it even more.

Eating other dogs’ poo: Ensure that your pup is supervised in areas where other dogs may have done a poo. They may need to have a lead on to make sure they can’t get to other dogs’ poo or if their recall is good, you can call them away. We don’t want them to have the opportunity to eat poo as this will make them more likely to do it again in the future, as they will learn that it is tasty (to them!).
