Reducing over excitement when you leave for a walk

  1. Pick up your pup’s lead, then just put it back down again. Repeat multiple times a day.
  2. Sprinkle some treats on the ground, clip on your pup’s lead, then just take it off. Repeat multiple times a day.
  3. Put the lead on, walk to the door, then just go back and take it off. Repeat multiple times a day.
  4. Put the lead on, walk out of the door, watch the world go by whilst offering treats every time your pup looks at you. Then turn round and come back in and take the lead off. Repeat.
  5. Throughout the day, pick one of these activities at random to do with your pup. Repeat multiple times a day.

We are reducing the association (and thus overexcitement) that your dog feels when they see the lead prior to a walk. This will help them be calmer and more focussed at the start of a walk and will reduce lead biting.
