Settle – stage 2 with cue

Point to the mat and say “Settle”. If your pup goes on the mat and lies down straight away, give them a treat between their paws on the mat. If they just sit on the mat, cue “Down” before giving them the treat on the mat. Say “Settle” as you give them the treat. To keep them lying down on the mat, occasionally give them a treat. You can increase the time between treats as they get better at staying in a Down on the mat. To release them from the Settle, say “OK”. If they pop up before you say OK, call them away from the mat using the “OK” release cue and then repeat the process.
