Reducing hyper focus on small furries with movement

Take your pup to a location where you can see the cuddly cat but can keep a good distance from it. Attach a rope to the cat and have someone stand out of sight (if possible) and very slowly drag the cat towards them. Keep a distance from it that does not make your pup bark, lunge or stare intently at the cat in such a way that they cannot look at you when you say their name. Allow them to look at the cat, then say their name, when they look at you, say “Good!” and give them a high value treat (something they really love). If they begin to offer eye contact voluntarily when they see the cat, say “Good” and give them a treat when they do. Don’t let your pup get to the cuddly cat to sniff/pick it up during your practice sessions.
